Situation Review – August 2016 (Versaun Tetun iha kraik)

In August, Belun’s Early Warning, Early Response (EWER) system continued monitoring for violent incidents and changes to the security situation in Timor-Leste. EWER monitors recorded 134 violent incidents, including 9 incidents related to water access – the highest such total that has ever been recorded by the EWER system – and 23 incidents that stemmed from land-related disputes. EWER monitors also recorded unusually high incident totals in Aileu, Baucau and Ermera, and serious incidents between police and military personnel in Ainaro and Bobonaro. Unlike past months, no slingshot arrow attacks were recorded in Dili in August.

For more details and a statistical breakdown of all incidents recorded in August, please read the full situation review here.
