Timor-Leste Universal Periodic Review 2016

Humanitarian action and human rights are closely interconnected. 6Situations of human rights concern can result in the need for humanitarian action, while humanitarian action needs to be undertaken with full respect for human rights.

The Universal Periodic Review of each UN Member State, conducted by the UN’s Human Rights Council, provides an opportunity to take stock of key
progress made in the implementation of a country’s human rights obligations and what actions could be undertaken to further the respect, protection and realization of human rights.
