As part of the Exercise Pacific Partnership 2016 (EX PP-16), the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Workshop is taking place this week at F-FDTL HQ Fatuhada, Dili. The workshop was officially opened on Monday by the Minister of Defense, H.E. Mr. José Cirilo Cristóvão, accompanied by the US Ambassador in Timor-Leste, H.E. Mrs Karen Stanton, Ambassador of Australia H.E. Mr. Peter Doyle and Ambassador of New Zealand H.E. Mrs. Vicki Poole, in the presence of Major General Lere Anan Timur Commander in Chief of the F-FDTL.
H.E. Mr. Cristóvão on behalf of the Government of Timor-Leste thanked the EXPP16 Commander to have included Timor-Leste as one of the participating countries to enable knowledge exchange regionally, capacity building and transfer of skills between the HADR Practitioners, both civil and military.
The Mission Commander of Pacific Partnership 2016, Commodore Tom Williams and the UN Resident Coordinator in Timor-Leste a.i. Mr. Stephen Kearney also made their remarks during the opening session by stressing the importance of the ‘One Week’ workshop as crucial to activate a well-coordinated and rapid response in time of Natural Disaster in Timor-Leste.
